Industrial and commercial public agency, under the joint supervision of French Ministries for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning (MEDAD) and for Higher Education and Research.

Mission
Encouraging, supervising, co-ordinating, facilitating and undertaking operations with the aim of protecting the environment and managing energy.

Priority areas
Energy, air, noise, transport, waste, polluted soil and sites, and environmental management.

Staff
820 employees (including 359 engineers).

Organization
Three central departments in Angers (49), Paris (75) and Valbonne (06); 26 regional branches, three representative offices in France's overseas territories and one representative office in Brussels.
