NL Agency came about in early 2010 through a merger of EVD, Netherlands Patent Office (Octrooicentrum Nederland) and SenterNovem. This merger will soon allow us to be of even better service to you as a result of a collective focus: one customer support desk, coherent programmes, better coordinated financing programmes and transparent, short procedures.

Focus on sustainability, innovation and international
NL Agency works for various ministries, focusing on sustainability, innovation and international business and cooperation. You can contact us for information and advice, but also for financing, networking and regulatory matters.

The activities of NL Agency are divided into five thematic divisions: • The division NL Energy and Climate Change strengthens society by working on energy and climate solutions for the future. • NL EVD International stimulates international business and cooperation and promotes a positive image of the Netherlands abroad. • NL Innovation helps Dutch businesses to innovate, by providing finance, advice and contacts. • NL Environment stimulates the achievement of sustainability goals by creating alliances, assessing environmental legislation and providing finance, information and advice. • NL Patent Office grants patents in the Netherlands, provides information on the patent system and represents Dutch interests in European and international organisations.

Ministry of Economic Affairs (Ministerie van Economische Zaken)

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) operates as a partner to trade and industry in the Netherlands. It is a dynamic department that plays an important role in creating the best possible circumstances for economic activity in the Netherlands, stimulating innovation and growth in vital sectors. The ministry seeks and maintains a permanent dialogue with companies on strategic issues, and offers subsidies which are aimed at strengthening the competitive edge of those industries that qualify for them.

The main task of the MEA is ensuring an efficient economy with a strong and dynamic private sector. An internationally competitive economy is absolutely vital if the Netherlands is to realise its goals in areas such as employment, social security, education and the environment. The ministry's main fields of policy are:

The ministry employs some 5000 civil servants. MEA consists of five Directorates-General, eight directorates and 11 agencies. The relevant Directorate-General for ERA-NET Bioenergy is DG Energy. The ministry finances the programmes under SenterNovem management and acts as the parent organisation of SenterNovem.
